HIV & AIDS

PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD
This Unit Standard is for any learner who needs to demonstrate an understanding of sexuality and sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV/AIDS, and the impact of these infections on oneself, as well as in the workplace and society.
It is also aimed at encouraging a healthy lifestyle.

This unit standard is for persons who are required to provide basic information about Anti-Retroviral Treatment (ART) to community members of similar cultural background and mother tongue, and to facilitate treatment compliance for the person who is receiving the treatment

A learner credited with this unit standard is able to:
* Demonstrate an understanding of sexuality.
* Demonstrate an understanding of the nature, transmission and prevention of sexually transmitted infections including HIV/AIDS.
* Describe means to cope and deal with sexually transmitted infections including HIV/AIDS.
* Describe human rights of individuals living with
HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections.
* Explain the psychosocial and cultural factors tha t have an effect on the person who receives ART, the family and the community.
* Explain the factors that promote the success of ART.
* Facilitate local support systems for the people who are receiving ART

Duration :                   2 Weeks

APPLICATION PROCEDURE
1. Submit the application for admission
2. Pay the non-refundable enrolment fee
3. Complete the required placement exams
4. Submit official transcripts from all institutions
Attend (these include institutions where the student may have attended and withdrawn without receiving credit)

THE FOLLOWING MUST BE SUBMITTED
1. A completed registration form
2. Copies of your matric certificate or high school examination certificate
3. Two copies of your ID or passport
4. ID or passport of guardian
5. ID or passport sized photographs
6. Registration fees R600 non refundable
